About Sitemap Lark

A small set of free tools for the two files that tell search engines how to crawl a site: the XML sitemap and robots.txt.

What it does

Sitemap Lark builds, checks and compares sitemaps and robots.txt files: a sitemap generator, a sitemap index generator, an hreflang sitemap generator, a validator, a URL extractor, a sitemap diff, a robots.txt generator and a robots.txt tester.

How it works

Every tool is JavaScript running in your browser tab. What you paste or open is processed there and never uploaded. Downloads, including gzip and ZIP files, are created on your device. Because a web page cannot read files from other websites, the tools work on what you paste or open rather than fetching your site; for a live check, the validator offers a link that opens WebTraceCheck's technical SEO check in a new tab.

What it follows

Sitemaps follow the sitemaps.org protocol (version 0.9), with Google's documented image, video and news extensions and xhtml:link for hreflang. robots.txt matching follows RFC 9309, the Robots Exclusion Protocol, using the grouping Google's open-source parser uses where the RFC leaves a choice. Where Google treats something differently, such as ignoring changefreq, priority or Crawl-delay, the tools say so.

Who is behind it

Sitemap Lark is an independent tool site. It is free, has no accounts and shows no ads. It links to two related sites by the same owner, CleanTempMail and WebTraceCheck, where they help with a task these tools cannot do in a browser. The site counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and never receives what you type, paste or drop into the tools; see the privacy page.
