Reading the result
- Added
- In the newer file only: new pages, or URLs whose spelling changed (a trailing slash, a parameter).
- Removed
- In the older file only. Check that these pages were meant to go and now redirect or return 404 or 410.
- lastmod changed
- In both, with a different date. Dates that mean the same instant, such as
2026-01-01T00:00:00Zand2026-01-01T01:00:00+01:00, count as unchanged.
Each side may be a URL sitemap, a sitemap index (its child sitemaps are compared) or a plain list. URLs are compared exactly as written; tick paths only to compare a staging sitemap with the live one.
FAQ
What does the CSV contain?
One row per change: the kind of change, the URL, the old lastmod and the new lastmod. Unchanged URLs are left out.
Can I compare sites split over many sitemaps?
Extract each version into one list with the URL extractor, then paste both lists here.
Why do almost all URLs show a changed lastmod?
Your CMS probably writes the generation time as lastmod. Search engines learn to ignore dates like that; set lastmod to when the content really changed.
